# 19:02:27 Doug_ Attempting to build arm crosscompiler for rpi on Cygwin under Win7-64bit. Have diff-ed the scripts to get to the build. In menuconfig, asked only for gcc and gdb, using latest libraries. Build fails in step 'Retrieving needed toolchain components' tarballs. What do I do to diagnose and correct?

# 20:28:46 Weasel[DK] Doug_, does it not tell which file not could be retrived ?
# 20:29:26 Doug_ No. The entire message is above.
# 20:31:16 Doug_ That's my issue. I have no clue as what it could not find, nor where. I see the capability in menuconfig to specify a local tarball source but don't know what to stow there. Sigh
# 20:33:15 Doug_ Is there an option to make the script sufficiently verbose to see the missing tarball(s)?
# 20:33:22 Weasel[DK] well, im all new to this, but i've seen such errors before. i just manualy dowloaded the tarball and put it in the right place
# 20:34:08 Weasel[DK] the name of the tarball was ofcource presented to me...
# 20:35:39 Doug_ That's what I hope to do but I can't download the entire Western world!
# 20:40:22 y_morin Doug_: You can look in the file named build.log, it is the complete (very verbose!) log.
# 20:40:57 Doug_ Thanks
# 20:41:33 y_morin Doug_: What file can not be downloaded?
# 20:56:10 Doug_ y_morin: Build log shows repeated tries to wget from www.kernal.org with the result that "The certificate of 'www.kernal.org' is not trusted." The HTTP request elicits "301 Moved Permanently"
# 20:56:12 Doug_ Thoughts?
# 20:57:11 y_morin Doug_: What version of ct-ng are you using?
# 20:57:42 Doug_ Just downloaded it yesterday. 1.18.0
# 20:58:00 y_morin Doug_: What is the exact file it can't download ?
# 20:58:54 Doug_ I can't see that. As far as I can see, it never connected to the tarball repository at all.
# 21:00:09 Doug_ Give me a way to attach the buildlog to an e-mail to you. I'm too much of a newbie to provide any more diagnosis.
# 21:01:54 y_morin Doug_: "The certificate of 'www.kernal.org' is not trusted." <-- WHAT? 8-(
# 21:02:18 y_morin Doug_: Are you behind a proxy (eg. corporate proxy) that mangles https?
# 21:03:00 y_morin Doug_: Also, can you try to manualy run this: wget http://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/linux-3.8.6.tar.xz
# 21:03:42 Doug_ No! Home network with only normal controls. Sure, I'll try. Be back in a couple of moments

# 21:09:20 sfan5 is now known as: sfan5|OFF
# 21:09:29 Doug_ A moment
# 21:13:15 Doug_ Sorry, I had a misspelling. Now I get the "certificate of 'www.kernel.org' is not trusted" message. after a successful connection
# 21:13:35 y_morin Doug_: On Win7/64, right?
# 21:13:44 Doug_ Yes
# 21:14:11 y_morin Doug_: Hold-on, I'll try something...
# 21:14:21 Doug_ Just installed Cygwin a couple of days ago, so it should be current.
# 21:15:48 y_morin Doug_: Aouh. Happens here, too... Hold-on, I still have something to check...
# 21:16:34 Doug_ y_morin: There is a second line to the error message "The certificate of 'www.kernel.org' hasn't got a known issuer." Am I missing a certificate file or something?
# 21:17:56 y_morin Doug_: I have the same here on Cygwin. Looks like: either certificates in Cygwin are not complete, or Cygwin is using Win's certificate, which are not compelte.
# 21:18:08 y_morin *complete.
# 21:18:41 Doug_ And so it goes! Now what?
# 21:19:35 y_morin Doug_: Time to migrate to Linux, and ditch Win7. :-p
# 21:20:15 Doug_ HAH. But, seriously??
# 21:21:55 Doug_ Point me at how to find what issuer kernel.org is using. I probably could add it to the Win cache.
# 21:22:30 y_morin Doug_: kernel.org is signed by Thawte, and I doubt Win is missing Thawte's certificate.
# 21:22:53 y_morin Doug_: Maybe you can go complain to the Cygwin fiolks, this is clearly not a problem with ct-ng.
# 21:23:32 y_morin Doug_: And as I usualy don't do Windows, I have no single clue as to what the issue might be, and even much less at what would be needed to fix it... :-(
# 21:23:47 Doug_ OK. Thanks much for your support. I understand that it's Cygwin's problem I'm off now. Again thanks.
# 21:24:36 y_morin Doug_: No problem, sorry I can't hepl...
# 21:24:41 y_morin *help.
# 21:25:06 Doug_ work on that 'pl' combo!!
# 21:25:33 y_morin Doug_: Hey! :-)
