If I want to build a toolchain for the ancient 2.4.19 kernel with glibc 2.3.6, does anyone have suggestions for what versions of crosstool, binutils and gcc to use? I have tried quite some combinations in ct 1.18.0 but no luck so far... |
# 19:47:35 |
y_morin |
Jovaro: Hello! You won;t be able to do that with crosstool-NG |
# 19:47:55 |
y_morin |
Jovaro: But if you really want to do that, you'll have to use tools of the same era. |
# 19:48:34 |
y_morin |
Jovaro: For example, use the original crosstool: http://kegel.com/crosstool/ |
# 19:51:39 |
kos_tom |
but using such tools on a modern distro may prove to be challenging, IMO |
# 19:55:40 |
y_morin |
kos_tom: maybe, yes. But one can't expect today's tools to still handle stuff from more than 10 years ago to still work (for the records, 2.6.0 was released 2003-12-18) |
# 19:55:51 |
y_morin |
So the 2.4 series is older than that. |
# 19:56:00 |
y_morin |
And we're in 2014, now... |
# 19:56:36 |
kos_tom |
Jovaro: your time would probably be better spent upgrading your kernel |
# 19:56:43 |
kos_tom |
Jovaro: or replacing your device by something more recent |
# 19:57:40 |
Jovaro |
not able to upgrade/switch device unfortunately :( |
# 19:57:44 |
y_morin |
GTG, back in ~30min... |
# 19:59:07 |
Jovaro |
but I'll give it a shot with the original crosstool then, maybe in a virtual machine with some old debian orso if it doesn't work on a recent version |
# 20:11:59 |
Jovaro |
or maybe I should rethink completely. My goal is to compile and run mtd-utils on a system with this old kernel and glibc |
# 20:12:34 |
Jovaro |
it is an arm system btw |
# 20:13:13 |
Jovaro |
I gave it a try with a cross-compiler from emdebian, but ended up with dependencies on a newer glibc |
# 20:13:53 |
Jovaro |
so therefore I tried to build my own cross-compiler, but maybe there is another, better way? |
